what substances can false teeth be made out of?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

i`ve heard of (and seen) gold teeth, also i`ve heard of a police dog being fitted with a stainless steel false tooth. also i understand plastic can also be used. do you think quartz crystal could also be used? it`s the right colour, also seems hard enough and if it`s good enough for digital watches, could it be good enough for chewing food with? any other substances you can think of?
wooden teeth? never heard that one before, metal teeth, ah yes, i remember jaws from the james bond film.

George Washington’s false teeth were made of wood.

Not only do you need something strong, it cannot be brittle or crumble when subjected to saliva and repetitive chewing. I’m not sure quartz would qualify. Various ceramics work.

I am looking for a charitable Dentist in the south Chicago land area. I need a upper plate of false teeth?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I have many problems with my teeth and smile. Have some crowns, one in front that is loose, discolred resin fills and missing teeth on the sides, had a partial, can’t find it:) I am in need of an upper plate, perhaps an entire set of false teeth. I am on disability and have no dental coverage. Perhaps a dental school does this work or I heard once of a place in southern Il that did this for a flat fee. Can anyone make suggestions?

Is it true about false teeth being radioactive?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I heard this random fact on a site
"On average, half of all false teeth have some form of radioactivity."
And want to know if this is true, and why it is? I'd rather live toothless.

False teeth are often radioactive. Approximately 1 million Americans wear some form of denture; half of these dentures are made of a porcelain compound laced with minute amounts of uranium to stimulate fluorescence. Without the uranium additive, the dentures would be a dull green color when seen under artificial light.

Should natural teeth and false teeth all close together?

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I recently have had fitted(?) four false upper teeth on a plate. I believe that the false teeth close together with my bottom teeth before my own teeth. This hurts my gums above the false teeth. Should this happen? Can it be fixed? Should it have been fixed initially?
My first foray into private dentistry and I feel it was a waste of money as it is more pleasant to eat without the plate.

Have the bite adjusted. Often this is required, especially if the appliance that you describe was delivered immediately following extractions. It is very common for the bite to be off and the gums to be sore.Good Luck

I need two false teeth after my braces, What happens and how do they put the false teeth in?

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I have braces on now and after I get them off i need false teeth in place of 2 adult teeth i am missing.
I have heard that you can get your false teeth like drilled in to the place you need them. is this true and if so what exactly happens?

hey there, yes the false teeth are called posts. they look like a real tooth except they have a little sorta like screw type structure (dont be alarmed, i know many people who have had this done) they actually screw/drill it in place and it looks just like a real tooth!! i dont know if they numb you really good or if you have to be put to sleep, i dont remember that part….but i think they also take an xray of your jaw area to make sure nothing is in the way……lots of people have had it, you can google tooth posts……good luck!!!!!

How would you feel about having false teeth when you were 25?

Friday, June 5th, 2009

I don't just mean one or two, a whole set that you have to take out at night.
I'm torn between dental implants (long and complicated process that means putting my current, very happy life, of travelling and working around the world on hold) or dentures (cheaper, less complicated but…it means false teeth at 25!)
I'm not in this problem because I negleted my teeth (I've always taken good care of them). I have a genetic problem that means my teeth did not develop properly.

You can travel anytime at your young age. Go for the implants, I know they will be expensive but they will look so much nicer than dentures. Take the advice from an experienced one, I had 6 on a plate at the age of 23. After a while they don't fit properly, and you can't smile properly because of the fear of them dropping, which they did. And there is nothing so embarrassing than dentures.I am 52 now and I am due at the dentist tomorrow, and I am enquiring on implants.

What can be done to remove stains on my false teeth?

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

I don't smoke, but I add blueberies to my corn flakes every morning. And I drink strong cocoa every night.
I brush & scub my false teeth intensely, and the gumshield and roof.
I soak them in organic liquid soap everynight
But nothing works!

try poladent, its for dentures but it works!

How do false teeth sit in your mouth without falling out?

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Like i mean the top row of teeth? how can they just 'clip' in up there without falling off or down? how do the fake gums to sit nicely & supportive? i tried to somehow picture how but i cant? please explain.. cause i know you can remove false teeth whenever you want! & can someone please tell me what are false teeth dentures made out of?! also how much are they for top & bottem set?

Upper dentures are usually held in place with natural suction between the denture and the roof of your mouth. When they are new it is sometimes necessary to use a commercial denture adhesive to aid in the transition. Most people adapt fairly well to upper dentures.

Lower dentures are a bit more tricky to learn to wear, they take considerably more patience to get used to. Some can wear them without adhesive but it seems more use adhesive to keep the lower stable.

Most dentures are made out of acrylic. Modern dentures are can be made to look extremely life like. The cost for the entire procedure varies by where you live, the quality of the dentures you receive and the skill level of your dentist, It is very important that if you are facing dentures that you do some research before committing to anything. Find out who does the best denture work in your area- ask friends and family. Visit the dentist and get his or her take on what is needed for you and most of all- get everything in writing and have it explained to you. If you have questions- ask them! Ask the dentist or ask here, ask someone who wears dentures.

What can be reasonably expected in new false teeth ?

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

I got false teeth full uppers and a partial on the bottom and I'm not happy with them. Can anybody tell what is reasonable to expect after I get them.

Depending on how long ago that you got them. For the first week, you still may have some swelling from any final extractions – ouch!
Then you will have a tendency to slobber a lot because your mouth thinks you have food in it. It is easy to get things stuck in the partial as you are eating – But please, do not pull out your plate at the table without covering your mouth. Cause nobody wants to see that.

Overall, you should expect more compliments on your smile, greater confidence cause you know you look good, easier chewing, biting, some protection from hot food.

If they do not want to stay in – try the powder – most prefered adhesive.

Any real discomforts should be taken back to the dentist to see if a light trim of edges is needed.

How much to have false teeth wired in?

Friday, May 1st, 2009

I have really bad teeth and I'm only 20. Because of a poor childhood I never had braces, so even though I've been taking care of my teeth their crookedness has caused a lot of problems. I have many cavities and my teeth are so weak they crumble away. I'm scared that I'll be missing a lot of teeth by the time I'm 25 :( How much would it be to have false ones put in? And would it be worth it?

It depends on the dentist you go to. I am in the same predicament as you. I have very weak teeth, have had all my life. No amount of dental care could help that. I am 34 and am fixing to have partials put in. It is costing me 1800.00 to have ALL of my molars pulled and my partials made. I am keeping my front teeth so I do not need full plates…..yet. I am guessing about 3000.00 for full plates.
Personally, being in the same boast as you, I believe that it would be worth it to not have pain when you eat.
